If you're new to the world of Netcasting/Podcasting, get ready, cause there are so many excellent FREE shows you've been missing out on! Don't worry, it's all very simple; we'll have you going right away. And no, you don't need an iPod!
First of all, let's demystify something. Episodes of a podcast are nothing more than regular MP3 files, and there's no reason you can't just download these files manually as you see fit. For example, check out our episode list to the right and click on any of the MP3 links for a direct file download (or click the play button on the embedded player to listen instantly).
The real magic of a podcast though, comes in when you subscribe. Think about a magazine subscription, only instead of the latest issue of a printed publication, you get the latest audio file released by a show like Hotcakes. And instead of arriving in your mailbox, your favourite audio player downloads it for you!
Audio players that allow you to subscribe to podcasts are sometimes called "podcatchers", and it should be noted that not all audio software supports podcast subscribing. Some that do are: iTunes, Juice , Zune, and Winamp. Each player works differently, but in general you can subscribe to a podcast by clicking the "add a podcast" feature and pasting the podcast's feed address (see box above-right) into where it asks you. If you're an iTunes user, you can also easily subscribe to Hotcakes in the iTunes store.
